Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended the King's Games in Hoofddorp today where she was a hit with the kids.

The Dutch Royal, 52, and her husband King Willem-Alexander, 56, were in high spirits as they met with school pupils of KBS Klippeholm and CBS Vesterhavet in the northwestern province.

The royal couple were dressed elegantly for the occasion, opting for chic leather and a suit respectively - a fitting choice ahead of the King's 56th birthday tomorrow.

The royals received a rousing welcome from the primary school pupils - and they seemed particularly excited to see Máxima who high-fived them in their classrooms.

The mother-of-three was also pictured seated at lunch tables with students as they dined on sandwiches, fruit and water in the school canteen.

Elsewhere the King and Queen stepped outdoors to observe what appeared to be an exciting game of friendly football.

For the event, the Argentine-born royal donned a pair of chocolate brown high-waist culottes, which served to accentuate her shapely figure.

Maxima paired the look with a grey high neck jumper and brown leather boots, while for the outdoors she opted for a long grey overcoat.

A pair of silver metal earrings made for the perfect accessory, although on this occasion she chose to forego a handbag.

For her hair, the royal's luscious blonde locks were tied downwards and decorated only with a middle part.

Her make-up was equally subtle and striking, with a streak of black eyeliner and a rose pink lip to top off the look.

Meanwhile her husband, the King, looked dapper in a royal blue suit which he wore with a white crisp shirt and an orange tie.

His outfit was a bold statement of national pride as it represented the Netherlands' flag colours, while also being synonymous with King's Day.

King Willem-Alexander will mark his 56th birthday tomorrow on April 27, however official plans for a celebration are yet to be announced.

It is expected the whole country will come out to celebrate with street parties, music and an array of games.

The King's Games, which traditionally take place before King's Day, are a fun way of kicking off royal celebrations.

More than 1.5million children at 7,500 schools around the country will engage in sports and exercise as part of the games, as they enjoy a day of health and fun rather than lessons.

The royal couple appeared jovial throughout their visit and were spotted greeting school teachers and playing enthusiastically with students.

The news comes as Queen Maxima yesterday met with the President of Nigeria in The Hague.

The royal, 52, looked elegant as she channelled spring in a stunning blue satin trouser suit to meet with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 72.

The crisp, tailored blazer cinched in at the waist, making for a sophisticated silhouette.

She met with the president at the Palace as part of her role as the United Nations Secretary General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

Her role includes being a leading global voice on advancing universal access to and responsible usage of affordable, effective and safe financial services.

The queen opted to wear her blonde tresses down in sleek, straight blow-dry and put on a pair of dazzling gold and black drop-earrings.

To accessorise, Maxima showed off her bling and donned black leather strap watch stacked with gold diamond bracelets.

She went for a glamorous makeup look with smokey eye-shadow, a touch of eyeliner and mascara and shiny red lip gloss.

Maxima posed alongside President Tinubu at the Palace but they had a furry friend who stole the show - the Queen's white pup, Mambo.

In the pictures, the three-year-old dog could be seen sharing a seat with Maxima and standing up alongside the pair to pose for the camera.

Her husband, King Willem-Alexander looked suave in a suit as he also met with the President at the Palace.

The 56-year-old donned a black blazer, matching smart trousers, a patterned tie with a crisp white shirt and a handkerchief.

President Tinubu is believed to have had separate meetings with the King and Queen. He was invited to the Netherlands by the country's president, Mark Rutte.

Whilst in the Netherlands, the President of Nigeria spoke about collaborations and partnerships between the two countries.

This includes agriculture and water management towards innovative solutions for sustainable farming practices.
